Mickey Blue Eyes (1999)

What The Hee....?

- Amusing from beginning to end and different from your average romantic comedy, Mickey Blue Eyes (1999) is a charming jab at the mobster genre. Michael (Hugh Grant) has just gotten engaged with the love of his life Gina (Jeanne Tripplehorn). Unfortunately for him, while he is gaining a wife, he is also joining "the family"....

Huge Grant is very funny starring as Michael here in Mickey Blue Eyes. Out of his milieu, Michael (AKA: "Little Big Mickey Blue Eyes") has to manage to squeak by all the family's antics, in the charming nervousness that only Huge Grant can portray. This film also stars Jeanne Tripplehorn as Gina; James Caan as Gina's mobster father Frank; Burt Young, who manages to be intimidating in a fun little romantic comedy, as mob Don Uncle Vito; as well as other actors who are not strangers to mobster movies.

Sure it is cheesy in some parts, not short on tools for cheap laughs in others, and full to the brim with Italian music ditties we have all heard a million times on spaghetti sauce TV commercials throughout - but "what the hee, forgedd aboud id." All things considered, Mickey Blue Eyes is hard not to like.
